The Big Draw at Clitheroe Castle - October 2009

Labyrinth by Big Draw artists

Adults at Big Draw

This is the 10th Anniversary of the Big Draw, and the third year that New Form Arts has taken part. This year's event was sponsored by the Clitheroe Castle Museum. The venue was ideal - with the newly refurbished Castle offering an excellent room that enabled many people to join in and help to create a series of scenes based on the Castle and Grounds. There were many adults as well as children joining in - which is what the Big Draw is all about. Each scene was made up of 12 panels and by the end of the day around 80 panels had been drawn. Our photos show some Big Draw participants and the finished scene of the Labyrinth.

Medieval Day at Clitheroe Castle - August 2009

Medieval Princess

Medieval Scribe This family event took place at the recently refurbished Castle and attracted a large group of re-enactment enthusiasts who thrilled the crowds with their battle scenes. The event was also a showcase for local food and produce and a medieval market was set up with various stalls. NewFormArts again laid on a community activity, helping young damsels and knights to make princess hats and warriors helmets. There was also a demonstration of calligraphy using reed pens and quills - the writing implements of the Middle Ages.

Viewing the Show

Textile Display We mounted an exhibition at the United Reformed Church in Clitheroe as part of their Festival of Flowers, Art and Craft. The festival was held over 3 days in July and attracted a large number of visitors

Activity Trail - May 2009

Making a birdbox

Art at the bridge As part of the Bowland Arts Festival, we held an Activity Trail between Downham and Chatburn. Various points on the trail offered activities including bag making; bird box making; water colouring; drawing with charcoal; calligraphy;spinning and weaving. There was also a large nest built up using natural materials like twigs, leaves and fleece. Around 20 groups signed up for the trail and a number of casual ramblers also joined in.

Clitheroe Festival - May 2009

Creating a flag In keeping with the Festivals WW2 wartime theme, we held a community arts event where participants could make artefacts out of recycled materials. These included paper hats and caps and planes decorated with RAF roundels. There were also some exotic flags designed.

Art of Bowland exhibition - July 2008

The group held avery successful month long exhibition at Brabin's Gallery in Chipping. This was part of the Bowland Festival programme.

Paint Clitheroe & Shoot Clitheroe - 2008

The Clitheroe Panorama

The New Form Arts marquee These two events were run on consecutive days as part of the Clitheroe Festival. Paint Clitheroe was a community art event where over 140 postcard size panels were drawn and coloured. The cards formed a mosaic entitled "Aspects of Clitheroe" and measuring 8 feet wide by 3 feet deep. The panorama shows a number of prominent sights and scenes of Clitheroe.

The second event was for groups to follow a trail around the centre of Clitheroe using a set of cryptic clues. These identified particular locations which the group had to photograph.

The BIG Draw - 2007

Adding a portrait to the panel For the Big Draw, we set up our stall at the entrance to Clitheroe Castle and invited passers-by to draw a portrait on a post-it note. These were then pasted on to a panel. We had a great response and by the end of the day we had 120 portaits on our panel.
